Geothermal field with surface equipment at an industrial site
Platform technology

Subsurface access. Modular conversion. Intelligent dispatch.

Three engineered layers that turn geological heat into dispatchable electricity for industrial buyers.

Closed-loop EGS extraction, no water injection
1-5 MWe Per modular unit, stageable
<800ms Dispatch response latency
Layer 1

Subsurface access through existing wells

The Basin and Range province has thousands of shut-in wells drilled for oil and gas exploration that never produced commercially. Many sit above formations with measured temperatures above 120C at less than 3,000 meters depth.

Critical Energy identifies, assesses, and retrofits these wells with closed-loop coaxial heat exchangers. The formation is never fractured, water is never injected, and the surface footprint is a fraction of conventional geothermal development.

Depth range 1,500 to 4,000 meters depending on formation temperature gradient
Temp target 120C minimum at target depth for viable power generation
Loop type Closed-loop coaxial, no formation fluid contact
Wellbore type Existing abandoned or shut-in, preferred over new drill
Layer 2

Modular above-ground conversion

Surface skid units use organic Rankine cycle technology to convert extracted heat into electricity and usable process heat. Units are containerized and can be staged to match site load requirements.

The modular design eliminates the multi-year project development cycle of conventional geothermal. A single unit can be operational within months of wellbore preparation, with additional units added as demand grows.

Vs. conventional geothermal
10 to 30 times smaller surface footprint. No cooling towers. Deployable at wellbore sites without grid-scale infrastructure.
Vs. diesel or gas generation
Zero combustion emissions from the generation unit. Fuel cost locked at geological, not commodity, pricing.
Layer 3

Real-time dispatch via AI market signal processing

The Dispatch Engine reads real-time ISO price signals from CAISO, PJM, and WECC markets, cross-references site demand telemetry, and routes power to its highest-value destination in under 800 milliseconds.

When grid prices spike, the system routes generation to the grid. When site demand ramps up, it diverts power to the industrial load. When both are low, it charges thermal storage. All of this happens without operator intervention.
